Cape Hatteras Oyster Co. is a branded oyster program that ships directly to restaurants and fishmongers around the country. The concept was dreamed up by the father son team Bill and Ryan Belter while collecting oysters along the soundside of Buxton Village in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. As local waterman, they realized this pristine microenvironment was an incredibly healthy and fertile ecosystem beautifully suited for supporting oysters and other sea life. Seeing this, the two turned their attention to cultivating a unique version of the Atlantic Oyster in the fertile water wherein they had previously made a living fishing and crabbing.
Cape Hatteras, NC
Cape Hatteras is the cape of North Carolina's barrier islands, a point that protrudes the furthest to the southeast along the Atlantic Coast and is the nearest landmass to Bermuda. This narrow strip of land is surrounded by two main water bodies, the Atlantic ocean to the east, and over 20 miles of Pamlico sound to the west between the island chain and the mainland.
